1.  In 1998, Sydney Pportable Ride Ooperators was formed to address issues that arose from the adoption, by WorkCover (NSW), of AS 3533 as the regulation for the operation of amusement devices in NSW. SPRO was initially Sydney based.

2.   With the broadening of membership to all the Eastern States & South Australia, it was felt that a name change was required to reflect the diversity of members, but to retain the identity and purpose of the group.

3.   By a vote in November 2001, the majority of members favoured the name Australian Amusement Association, with the structure being autonomous state based groups (A.A.A.-NSW: A.A.A.-Vic: A.A.A.-SA etc) from the executives of which would be drawn a national executive.

The common aims of the members are:

    • to encourage and promote self regulation in the amusement  industry to encourage and promote safety in ride operation.
    • to encourage and promote competent and professional conduct of our business.
    • to provide a united voice, on behalf of all operators, to address the issues of the industry and to deal with the various Government Authorities that exercise jurisdiction over the industry.

·  A.A.A. will publish an industry specific newsletter four times a year, which will be a means of dissemination of iinformation, and provide a forum for discussion, education and advertising of equipment and services related to the industry.

·  A.A.A. aims to organise training and educational seminars on a regular basis these will address issues relating to safety within the industry; insurance and financial services; staff selection and training and in this way, provide the support that each operator needs to develop a sustainable and professional business.

·  ALL ride operators have benefited, and will continue to  benefit, from the activities and achievements of A.A.A.. The information provided in Mobile Ride News is worth more, in hard dollars, than the annual membership fee. The information made available through speakers at meetings and seminars allows A.A.A. members to be fully informed of the latest changes in Government regulations in all states.
